KBIS was first established in 1986 as a specialist bloodstock insurance provider under the trading name of Kershaw Bloodstock Insurance Services. In 1991, the company was acquired by Guy and Liz Prest, who expanded the business to include insurance cover for the riding and competition horse. At the end of 2020, KBIS was acquired by Specialist Risk Group (SRG) whose portfolio includes Lloyd's broker Miles Smith and The Underwriting Exchange (TUE). Over the years KBIS has grown further to include horsebox insurance, liability insurance and specialist equestrian property insurance.

We try to deal with your claim as promptly as possible and communicate effectively so you know how your claim is progressing, helping to alleviate some stress at what can be a very worrying time.

Our aim is always to provide our customers with a first-class service; however, we are aware that, occasionally, it is possible that we may fail to meet your expectations. If we are unable to resolve the issue to your satisfaction within 3 working days, we will formally investigate the matter. You will receive an acknowledgement of the matter together with a copy of our complaints process promptly and certainly within 5 working days. We will then aim to investigate and provide a resolution as quickly as possible, informing you of a final response no later than 8 weeks.

KBIS is paying out for one of my claims the other has been a struggle although the company has now agreed. However, I have found them difficult and obstructive and those making the decisions regarding claims are like vultures picking at scraps. I have had to make several challenges with my vet's help. Claims are processed slowly too and sit in my account for weeks without being sent for review, only being hurried along when I phone to ask how things are proceeding. Disappointed so far. I was with E & L before and couldn't fault them.

Having lost my 29 year old pony from what we believe to be natural causes. he was found to have passed away during the night, I rang KBIS to request that my claim for his disposal be processed. I was refused and told that disposal was linked to the reason for the death. I was only insured for his disposal if the death was due to accidental reasons.
Apparently this is stated in the small print. I wasn't expecting any money for his loss just some contribution to help with disposal. I was aware there was a140 excess. Very very disappointed and feel that the insurance I bought for the latter years was not what I was led to believe.

I've used KBIS to insure both my horse, and our 3.5t horsebox. Faultless customer service. and yes, policy prices might be a little higher compared to other insurer's, but the only deduction made was my excess when I had to make a claim on my horse's policy. So in the long run, it actually saves you money! As other insurer's make loads of deductions - which they don't tell you about!
In addition, when I made a claim, KBIS paid out really quickly. staff always so helpful when I contacted them - and for me, because I work long hours, being able to have an email dialogue with them, which a big game changer for me! I can highly recommended KBIS!

I've had KBIS insurance for my last three horses, but it was only recently when I had an ongoing issue/claim that I realized how amazing KBIS was. Their customer service was amazing and they supported me every step of the way, even through the depths of the covid crisis. No quibble or push back, just amazing service. I can not recommend KBIS more highly. In the last five months I have had two horrendous incidents occur with my horses. One horse had to have major colic surgery for a 360 gut twist. For 9 days it was touch and go as to if he was going to make it - he did. KBIS were fantastic to deal with. Every member of staff who I dealt with from the beginning of the claim process to the end of it were so helpful and all being horse owners they understood what I was going through.
I can't tell you how much of a difference this made during such a traumatic time. Roll forward 2 months, my other horse had to have major surgery due to an infection in his withers. Despite the very best surgeons, vets and very careful management the outcome in this case was so desperately sadly not to be - the horse had to be putdown. My world was shattered by this, but again throughout the process KBIS were fantastic.
The understanding of the horses welfare, the quiet competency, efficiency and speed that Sarah, my claims handler showed towards me during what was such an emotional time is something that I can never thank her enough for. as a PS I would like to add that KBIS came to my attention in the first instance as a recommendation from our local MFH. Both our local equine practice and the specialist surgery centre where both horses were operated on spoke very highly of KBIS.
They stated that they are an extremely professional organisation which were run and managed by knowledgeable horse owning people and I can't tell you what a difference this makes when the worse is happening to your four legged best friend/s.

I would like to say a big thank you to KBIS on my recent Mortality Claim. Having lost my horse of lifetime, I did not even realise I had Mortality cover until I phoned up to cancel the insurance. It was KBIS who suggested that I made a claim despite not having a postmortem. I filled out the form and acquired the relevant information from my vet and they did the rest.
I received the money in my bank quickly with no quibbles. They were informative and compassionate throughout the whole process and I am very grateful. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. 5 Star Service.

KBIS is an excellent company! My horse has had 2 major surgeries in the last few months and Kbis have been absolutely brilliant! It's a huge financial worry when your horse needs surgery and Kbis were extremely professional and super quick dealing with claims. I highly recommend Kbis and I and Olive, are extremely grateful to them!

I have been really impressed with KBIS, I have my horses on their Catastrophe cover which is really great value for money, and last year saved me loads of money on vets bills after my horse accidentally injured himself out hunting. They are easy to deal with, their staff are friendly and helpful, and making a claim was very straight forward. I would highly recommend everyone to look at what they have to offer.!

I have been with KBIS since 1994 having insured a six-month foal. I now have three horses insured with them. I have had a few claims all of which have been dealt with very quickly. The service I have received has been very good. They also cover older animals too - I have a 28y old mare. The cost is very competitive.
